The Izod Center, located at 50
State Highway 120, East Rutherford, NJ 07073, was built in 1981
and is the home of the New Jersey Nets from the NBA, the New Jersey
Devils of the NHL, the New Jersey Red Dogs of the AFL, and the
University of Seton Hall Pirates basketball team. The Izod Center cost $85 million to construct and Izod Center
is paying almost $2.5 million a year for the naming rights on
the building. There is available parking on the lot for almost
25,000 cars and the nearest airport is only 10 miles down the
highway. The Izod Center is located just off the
state highway so it’s easily accessible and traffic usually
isn’t as bad as other stadiums across the nation. The Nets
have retired six players into their hall of fame and the Devils
will likely retire the number of goalie Martin Brodeur after he
decides to hang up his skates. The Izod Center
can hold more than 20,000 people and features 29 luxury suites
and over 1,000 club level seats. The tickets for games at the
Izod Center are just above the average price across
the nation at other stadiums but each of the 20,000 seats in the
arena is a solid one. The Nets have had discussions in recent
years about possibly leaving New Jersey and moving to Brooklyn
but the Izod Center will undoubtedly continue to
succeed either way because of the other teams that bring revenues
into the building.
The New Jersey Nets will move to the Prudential Center in Newark for the 2010-2011 season.
